Therefore, Veerayatan B.Ed. College is a recognized minority institution.

The college, inspired by Pujya Shri Acharya Shri Chandanaji, was established in 2007 in Nalanda district. It has a distinguished history of producing scholarly and bright students who have excelled in various fields of education and training. The college is situated amidst the lush green surroundings of Pawapuri, near the world-famous Jal Mandir (Nirvana Bhoomi of Lord Mahaveer), far from the noise of urban life.

Designed to provide a congenial and comfortable learning environment, the college supports the holistic development of students—enabling them to meet present and future educational needs. It has a beautiful infrastructure that harmoniously blends with nature. The college is renowned not only in Nalanda district but also in other parts of Bihar.

Veerayatan B.Ed. College is a co-educational institution offering a two-year B.Ed. course. The program is recognized by ERC-NCTE, Bhubaneswar, and is affiliated with Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU), Patna. According to Pujya Acharya Shri Chandanaji, the institute was envisioned as Pro-Poor and Pro-Rural, aiming to produce a unique kind of elite—individuals not born into privilege but distinguished by talent and effort.

We are proud to share that the Honourable President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, presented the Padma Shri Award (2022) to Pujya Acharya Shri Chandanaji, founder of Veerayatan, for her extraordinary contributions to social work. She established educational centers in Pawapuri and other regions. She is the first-ever Jain Sadhvi to be bestowed the title of Acharya.

History of the College

Veerayatan is a non-profit organization founded by Pujya Acharya Shri Chandanaji in 1972. Since its inception, it has been active in the fields of education and social awareness.

Tirthankar Mahaveer said, “Jah Deevo Deev Sayan” – one lamp lights a thousand lamps. Inspired by this divine mantra of Bhagwan Mahaveer, Veerayatan continues its efforts in the fields of Seva (Service), Shiksha (Education), and Sadhana (Spiritual Practice).

Inspired and blessed by Rashtra Sant Pujya Gurudev Upadhyaya Shri Amar Muniji Maharaj, Veerayatan was established as a humble effort to amalgamate spiritual enlightenment and compassion for humanity, under the able guidance and leadership of Acharya Shri Chandanaji Maharaj.

With over five decades of continuous service to humanity, the organization has expanded to several locations under the guidance of the Sadhvijis. The Jain community, especially the compassionate youth and members living abroad, have devoted themselves to this divine mission, contributing to the ongoing spiritual movement.

Recognizing the deep-rooted need for education in the land of Mahaveer, Veerayatan acknowledged that the very essence emphasized by Tirthankar – education – was lacking. Bihar alone requires more than 150,000 trained teachers annually, but the existing infrastructure can produce only around 36,000 teachers per year. Even among them, many lack adequate training in the true spirit of being a “Guru.”

Therefore, Acharya Shri Chandanaji Maharaj took the initiative to establish the Veerayatan B.Ed. College in Pawapuri. The aim was to nurture teachers who would blend tradition with modernity. There must be a fusion of the Guru-Shishya Parampara (teacher-disciple tradition) with modern scientific techniques and a progressive attitude. Teachers should be complete “Gurus,” capable of preparing students with the right Sanskar (values), making them not only good human beings and responsible citizens but also aware of their duties (Dharma) and rights (Adhikar)—compassionate individuals imbued with essential human values.

On the pious occasion of Lord Mahaveer’s 2600th Jayanti, Veerayatan established the Veerayatan B.Ed. College in Pawapuri in 2007. The college aims to provide an integral and personalized training experience through a pedagogy that includes context, experience, reflection, action, and evaluation—to develop well-motivated teachers who are intellectually competent, morally upright, and socially committed. The Board of Management comprises several eminent individuals from various walks of life.

Our Vision

To nurture young, creative, contributive, and optimistic minds grounded in Indian ethics—instilling in them values that make them complete human beings. To deliver an all-around education that imparts knowledge and develops competencies in future educators, giving them the confidence to excel in the academic world.

Our Mission

Veerayatan envisions transforming Bihar into a land of peace, inspiration, and solace. Upholding its tradition and motto of Seva, Shiksha, and Sadhana, Acharyashriji, with deep compassion for the underprivileged, established Veerayatan B.Ed. College.

The college emphasizes purity of thought and action, promoting vegetarianism and Ahimsa (non-violence) across all aspects of life. The goal of education is to shape responsible and sensitive citizens. Our ultimate aim is to ensure that children from all backgrounds—regardless of caste, creed, religion, gender, or socio-economic status—have access to quality education.

We aspire to produce teachers who are not only academically excellent but also spiritually grounded—educators who embody the right blend of intellect, emotion, values, life skills, and communication abilities.
